The III Asian Student Forum “Altai-Asia 2017” opened at Altai State University on September 14.

The working part of the forum started with ecological, educational and scientific module dedicated to Altai, where biologists and geographers of Altai State University acted as speakers and experts.

“The informative part of the forum started with the topic dedicated to the Year of Ecology and specially protected territories in Russia. The best scientists of our university told the participants, who have come from different parts of Russian and from foreign countries, about breakthrough research in such fields as climatology, ecological security, geopolitical and geo-economic prospects for development of Central Asian territories, international  cooperation between Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, and many other things,” representative of organization committee, Head of the Department for Extracurricular and Educational Work Anton A. Tselevich specified.

Assistant Professor of the Department of Physical Geography and Geographic Information Systems, Candidate of Geography Natalia F. Kharlamova took the floor at the opening of educational part of the forum and presented a report on global climate challenges of the 21st century in the Asian region.

“Today we talk about challenges, because the problem of climate changes has to be solved by young participants of Altai-Asia 2017. Climate strongly influences the life of all humankind, affects almost all economic branches. Such natural phenomena as hurricanes, droughts and floods that have been happening in the world since summer 2017 clearly demonstrate that global warming has its own peculiarities and people cannot ignore it. Moreover, people have to adapt to it, because the forecasts are quite depressing. According to the scientists’ prognosis, temperature may increase by more than 2 degrees Celsius by the end of the century. It is a dangerous limit, achievement of which can lead to even more disastrous climatic occurrences on our planet,” Natalia F. Kharlamova said in her speech.

The participants of Altai-Asia 2017 spent the first part of the day in lecture classes and went on tour around Altai State University and Barnaul after lunch.
