ASU has prepared a project of the Altai Center for Biomedicine in order to submit it for approval to the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.

In September 2014 on the basis of the classical university was opened Research Institute of Biological Medicine, the main objective of which is to develop a highly effective innovative medicine with proven positive effect. The uniqueness of this institution is that there is formed a modern research base, equipped with high-technology equipment. A team of young  researchers and developers operates in the Research Institute under the guidance of Doctor of Medical Science Ivan V. Smirnov.

The first phase of the project was formed at the expense of the University with the support of the ASU Strategic Development Program. The second phase involves the implementation of a full cycle — from the idea of innovative medicines to transfer of the product into clinical practice or to the market.

This phase includes not only the development of substance, but also its production, the creation of a medicinal product, all necessary tests and further proper registration of the product. All this suggests a more powerful infrastructure than just Institute, even equipped with the latest technology. At this stage it is planned to strengthen the research platform of Research Institutes, to create an industrial production of substances and finished dosage forms, which meet all the requirements of appropriate laboratory and manufacturing practices. All this will require major investment and support of the federal budget.
