On 1 October 2017 opening of Archaeological Stone Garden took place at Altai State University. The opening ceremony was held in the framework of The V (XXI) All-Russian Archaeological Conference.

“Altai State University has formed a tradition of perpetuating each major all-Russian or international event not only in the university’s history, but also in the memory of our city. Thus, a monument has been established near Universum Gallery in honor of the VII Educational Week of SCO Countries. Today we have opened Archaeological Stone Garden initiated by ASU Rector Sergey V. Zemlyukov in commemoration of The V (XXI) All-Russian Archaeological Conference,” Vice Co-Chairman of Conference Organizing Committee, Head of the Department of Archaeology, Ethnography and Museology at Altai State University, Doctor of History Alexey A. Tishkin said.

Archaeological Stone Garden features stones with copies of petroglyphic drawings of the Bronze Age located in Kosh-Agachsky District and near Chagan-Uzun River in Altai Republic.

“I hope that the garden will help citizens and guests of Barnaul and Altai Krai learn more about petroglyphic drawing, while the educational effect will have an impact on preservation of the drawings. While we were making preparations, a lot of people took interest in this place and asked us questions about its aim. So I hope that our efforts will be duly appreciated by people, who are nowhere near archaeology, as they will understand, how important it is to study ancient history,” Vice-President of Siberian Association of Prehistoric Art Researchers Yelena A. Mikloshevich emphasized.

The right to open Archaeological Stone Garden was granted to Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, Chief Research Officer at the Institute for Archaeology and Ethnography of SB RAS, Doctor of History, Professor Anatoly P. Derevyanko and Co-Chairmen of the Conference Organizing Committee: Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Institute for Archaeology of RAS, member of the Presidential Council for Science and Education, RAS academician Nikolai A. Makarov and Rector of Altai State University Sergey V. Zemlyukov.
