ASU scientist participates in international scientific expedition, which studies the nature of South Africa

The main goal of the project is the collection of materials for molecular genetic studies within the initiative project of entomologists from Altai State University on the topic "Lepidoptera, Cossoidea of the World Fauna: Taxonomy, Molecular Phylogeny, Zoogeography", supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR).

The scientists will conduct a study of the fauna of South Africa's national parks located on the territory of the Drakensberg Mountains and the Little Karroo Plateau.

The Drakensberg Mountains are a mountain system that runs through South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland and has a diverse flora and fauna represented by rare or endemic species. Most of the mountains are included in Drakensberg Park, a natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Little Karroo Plateau is a valley in the Cape Mountains, an arid region in southern Africa, which unites semi-desert plateaus and intermontane areas south of the Great Steppe and the Orange River valley. The region is located mainly in the territory of the Republic of South Africa, as well as in the adjacent areas of Namibia.
