ASU hosts selection round of WorldSkills Russia

WorldSkills Russia is the most ambitious championship on vocational skills among schoolchildren and students in Russia. From June 1 to 7, the selection round is carried out at Altai State University.

"In 2017 our university joined the championship association, receiving the right to participate in the competitions organized by it. 32 students, including physicists, geographers, mathematicians, as well as representatives of the university college, compete in creating software solutions for business, web design, and tourism for a week," organizer Roman Rakitin notes.

The jury consists of independent experts from Moscow, Voronezh and Barnaul. The judging team is headed by the chief expert of WorldSkills Russia Mikhail Vinogradov. He says:

"Personally, I evaluate the completed tasks related to practical tourism. We are talking about drawing up an optimal package for a trip, say to Turkey, developing a new route for customers. Leading Russian travel companies took part in preparing the questions. Specialists are interested in getting the answers as close to real life as possible."

According to Mikhail Vinogradov, the WorldSkills championship is gaining momentum. Its association includes 160 leading universities from 34 Russian constituent entities. By the way, not only students but also schoolchildren from 14 to 16 years old are gradually joining the work. Moreover, the issue of reducing the age limit to 10 years is being considered.

Participant Vera Kiseleva completes her studies at the college of Altai State University. She hopes that the knowledge gained over several years will help her cope with the tasks set and draw a lucky ticket to the final stage of the championship.

"The topic of my graduate thesis is event tourism. In Altai there are many interesting events, such as festivals devoted to rhododendron blossoming and Altai winter that are visited by people from different parts of the country. I am considering new prospects for the development in this direction," Vera Kiseleva says.

The students who will score the required number of points will get an opportunity to take part in the championship finals. Their names will be announced on June 7. The final stage of the championship will be held from November 26 to November 29 in Moscow.
