The National Research Tomsk State University, the flagship Altai State University, Gorno-Altaisk State University and Arizona State University for the first time in the consortium organize the International Symposium under the brand name Life and Earth Sciences and Sustainable Global and Regional Development (AKTRU2019).

In the framework of the upcoming scientific event, a series of international summer schools (Summer Schools) are planned to be devoted to various areas of the science of life and the Earth, as well as sustainable global and regional development.

“Tomsk State University has been conducting an international school at Aktru Research Station for several years already. However, this year, the management of several universities, including ASU, agreed to expand the format of this event and hold it for the first time in a consortium. Altai State University, being a co-organizer of a scientific symposium, has already begun preparations for the summer international school for the study of Altai flora. We plan to attract leading foreign specialists in the field of botany to participate in it, show them our rich region and ultimately establish interaction for further joint research of this territory,” said Polina Gudkova, representative of the symposium organizing committee, assistant professor of the Department of Botany at the Faculty of Biology. “At present, the situation is such that international teams of scientists work on the study of the flora of various countries. For example, the United Kingdom and the United States acted as coordinators of the study of Chinese flora, while the Japanese and the British scientists worked on a publication on the vegetation of Nepal. This is the modern practice!”

In the future, the scientists of ASU are planning to publish a scientific article devoted to the flora of the Great Altai, located on the territory of four countries.

It remains to be added that the symposium and summer schools will be held from July 8 to July 19, 2019 in the Altai Republic, including on the premises of ASU training practice base “Chemal” and at research station of TSU “Aktru”.

More information about the program of the symposium and schools can be found on the official website of the event.
