Students of the Faculty of Biology study alpine arthropods

1 October 2019 Faculty of Biology

Summer is an amazing time for the students of the Faculty of Biology, because it is in the summer that they have a practice that allows them to make amazing discoveries and explore hard-to-reach mountain areas, look at enchanting landscapes, test themselves in difficult conditions of high mountains, find new friends. Student of the Faculty of Biology Valentin Rudoi told us about one of such expeditions:

“At the end of summer (from September 22 to September 29, 2019), one of the expeditions dedicated to the study of the world of arthropods was held. The North-Chuya Ridge was chosen as a place to study these invertebrates. The group consisted of 4 students (Vlad Latun, Anatoly Serebryakov, Anton Bolgotov and Valentin Rudoi). We reached the village of Kurai, then walked along the Kurai steppe, sometimes locals helped us to overcome the distance of 30 km by giving us a lift. Then we reached the lower and upper alpine camps. We managed to climb to the blue lake along the Great Aktru glacier. The material on arthropods was presented in small quantities, since the nights were cold (especially in the upper alpine camp), and the temperature dropped below zero, but among these small finds there was interesting material that needs to be processed. The expeditions were carried out as part of the state assignment of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation No. 6.2884.2017/4.6.”
