Altai State University has been ranked among the most prestigious higher education institutions of BRICS by Quacquarelli Symonds agency.

ASU has once again become the only Altai university to be included into the internationally acclaimed ranking of the best universities of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), which was prepared by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

In 2016 the ranking comprised only 55 Russian leading universities out of 97 registered ones. ASU takes the 28th place among them.

In comparison with the previous year, ASU has gained 17 positions. It has also gone up by 70 positions since its first appearance in the ranking in 2014 (in 2015 QS specialists called ASU the most dynamically developing university of Russia).

ASU takes the 131-140 place among all BRICS higher education establishments. Altai university shares its position with Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University and Perm State University. This year Altai State University has managed to outrank 4 federal and 10 national research universities presented in the ranking.

It should be added that the ranking has brought together only 8 higher education establishments of Siberian Federal District, and ASU takes the 4th place among them giving the leading places to universities of Novosibirsk and Tomsk.

The expert evaluation is based on the survey results of academic and business community representatives. Such factors as the balance between lecturers and students, the number of scientific publications, citation indexes, the share of Doctors of Science in the whole workforce, the number of foreign lecturers and foreign students have also been taken into account.

QS annually publishes the lists of the best universities of the world, separate countries, economic regions. In particular, ASU has been ranked 40th by the number of foreign students among the higher education institutions of BRICS countries.

QS rankings belong to the three most influential rankings of the world together with “Academic Ranking of World Universities” and “The Times Higher Education World University Rankings”.
