ASU honoured the Great Patriotic War veterans

On 5 May Rector of Altai State University Sergey V. Zemlyukov held a meeting with the Great Patriotic War participants, including former soldiers, homefront workers and ASU veterans.

The meeting participants included the oldest ASU employee, war veteran Anatoly V. Shestakov, who turned 102 on 27 January 2016; homefront workers Maria S. Zybina, Matrena I. Kataeva, Vera I. Markova; ASU veterans Ivan A. Anikin, Faculty of History professor Alexander A. Hramkov, Faculty of Law professor Isaak L. Drukarov, Faculty of Mass Communication, Philology and Political Science professor Valentin A. Elchaninov, Faculty of Geography professor Boris N. Luzgin.

Sergey V. Zemlyukov told the veterans about the major events, which had happened at the university within the last year. Particularly, he mentioned that there had been Veterans Board established at ASU. The meeting participants talked about the current state of the regions’ major high education institution, existing problems and possible solutions.

“Despite the difficulties of modern life, we are confident about the university’s future. You, the veterans, have contributed a lot of your efforts and skills to the classical university development, and we express our gratitude for that,” said Sergey V. Zemlyukov.

Sergey V. Zemlyukov congratulated the veterans on the incoming holiday, wished them health, vivacity, optimism and invited to the special concert dedicated to the Victory Day.

The concert called “Victory Arithmetics” began with the pictures of raising a flag over the Reichstag. Then the veterans listened to the famous songs, music compositions and poems about the war, the songs written by Altai State University students. At the end of the concert, the students performed a medley of the wartime tunes, which the audience sang along to.
