ASU student impressed the judges at The Voice of China

28 September 2016 Public Relations Department

Student from Barnaul Lyudmila Belozerskikh has recently become a participant of The Voice of China. She studies at the Faculty of Mass Communication, Philology and Political Science in Altai State University. At her 1st year she succeeded in making videos about the university. At the age of 18 Lyudmila won the patriotic beauty contest. On completion of the 3rd year of studies she took a hard decision to continue her education abroad.

“You need to be proficient in foreign languages, especially Chinese, to become a good journalist. Going to other country and sinking into new atmosphere is the best way for it. I went to the School of International Education in Yantai University for the internship. The university is located in Shandong Province,” explained Lyudmila.

Lyudmila got used to unusual circumstances with the help of her fellow students from Switzerland, America and Korea.  She recalled those days:

“It was difficult to listen to the lectures at first. The classes were conducted in Chinese and English. Besides, there always was a loud noise, because everyone was speaking their native language. Meantime, I tried not to forget the great and mighty Russian language.”

Lyudmila was also sticking to recommendations and knowledge of her supervisor Alena Glushenko, who Lyudmila’s tutor for 4 month at a specialized college in Barnaul.

“She cultivated the love of language for me and proved the fact that difficulties at the beginning of education are highly appreciated in future,” said Lyudmila.

After the internship she confirmed her level of knowledge successfully by passing the HSK, which is an international standardized exam for testing and rating Chinese language proficiency.

Smashing the rankings

A year of training at Yantai University passed very quickly.

“My life changed a lot during that period. My world view expanded, new dreams and goals appeared. I understood that I wanted to develop not only in journalism. I continued studying Chinese at Altai State University with great enthusiasm and will graduate soon. In summer I will get two education certificates: in journalism and in translation of Chinese language,” continued Lyudmila Belozerskikh.

However, she did not have enough opportunities for development in Barnaul. This year she arranged a business visa and went to Yantai Dazhong Wang holding to work as a reporter in local Yantai television for two months.

There she created an original one-hour show called “The Foreigner’s View”, where she studied the difference between Russia and China, described these countries’ cultural peculiarities and discovered in what way China can be interesting for foreigners. Eventually, the show smashed all the rankings.

Getting ready for the audition

Lyudmila was pushed to participating in The Voice of China or 好声音 by her colleagues.

“There was an audition in Yantai. When I am in good mood, I often sing Chinese songs in the office. The journalists suggested me participating in the audition. They had to persuade me for the whole week! Finally, I agreed to do it.”

In general, The Voice is one of the most popular TV shows in China. People from all over the country take interest in its news, because singing is their favourite hobby. Every city has a lot of concert halls and clubs, where people can sing. Many Chinese citizens dream of participating in 好声音, submit applications, send video messages, wait to see the judges for hours. There are no major differences from the original program or the Russian analogue.

When coaches turned to her, they were surprised at her being a foreigner.

“They thought I was Chinese at first. They said I had good pronunciation, delivered the song in the right way and held significant pauses. So my training is not for nothing. The words said by experienced and competent people are the best praise and motivation for further education.”

Thus, ASU student passed on to the next round of the contest, which will be shot in January 2017. Lyudmila has not decided yet whether she is going to continue participating in The Voice or focus on the more important objective and get her long-desired education certificates at Altai State University.

The dream is up ahead

Lyudmila Belozerskikh confidently pursues her dream to become an international journalist. She doesn’t plan ahead, but thinks about moving to live in other country. Lyudmila thinks that her relatives deserve the credit for her success. Her parents and sister believe in her and back her up even being far from her.
