New chapter in student sport development
General Meeting of Russian Student Sport Union “Burevestnik” was held on 28 October 2016 at the Conference Hall of Russian National Olympic Committee in Moscow.
Participants included Vice Head of Presidential Department for Maintaining Activity of Russian State Council, Secretary at President of Russia’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Promotion Alexey V. Kulakovskiy; Deputy Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Marina V. Tomilova; Director General at Russian Olympic Committee Vladimir B. Sengeleev; Vice-Chairman of State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana S. Zhurova; representatives of all-Russian sports federations and conference delegates. Altai Krai was represented by Director of University Sport Club, member of Executive Board at Russian Student Sport Union (RSSU), ASU lecturer Sergey N. Buravlev.
Report on activity of Executive Board at Russian Student Sport Union in 2012–2016 was delivered by Oleg V. Matytsyn, who has been occupying a post of President of RSSU since 2005 and is currently a President of International University Sports Federation (FISU).
The conference participant approved the work on organization of student leagues and associations by different sports. Regional sport and education departments, rectors councils and regional divisions of RSSU have planned to sign agreements on cooperation by the analogy of cooperation agreement between Russian Ministry of Sport, Russian Ministry of Education and Science, Russian Rectors Union and Russian Student Sport Union.
The most active RSSU members were rewarded based on the results of four-year work. ASU lecturer S.N. Buravlev received a commemorative prize for contribution to the development of student sport in Russia.
The conference participants have adopted amendments to RSSU Charter. Rector of Moscow State Academy of Physical Education Sergey G. Seiranov has been unanimously elected as RSSU President. President of Russian Student Boxing Federation Nurulla G. Sattarov and President of Russian Association for Universities of Physical Education Vladimir A. Taimazov and others have been chosen as Vice-Presidents. These people will comprise new executive organ of RSSU that is called Presidium and will deal with current problems on an ongoing basis.
Russian Student Sport Union has busy times and a number of important events ahead. Student sport has always been a launching pad into Olympic sports. Moreover, Russia is to host the International Winter Student Games in Krasnoyarsk in 2019, which will be a significant event for student sport.
