Tomorrow, on 28 January, Chinese New Year celebrations start and will last until 11 February. Altai State University decided to join the tradition and held a festival dedicated to Chinese New Year on 20 January 2017.

“The event is annual, but it has only become large-scale this year. We have over 100 students from China studying at Altai State University, and the number increases each year,” noted Head of the Department of Oriental Studies, Director of ASU Russian-Chinese Center Dmitry A. Glazunov.

Students prepared a beautiful performance, which took a long time to rehearse. Everything looked colourful and carried philosophical and moral ideas. Thus, fan dance performed by Russian and Chinese students showed the synthesis of European and Chinese cultures.

The festival program was diverse and included songs, dances and competitions. The audience enjoyed the appearance of a famous Chinese martial artist Huo Yuanjia most of all. He told the guests about the martial arts techniques with the help of dance moves and national music.
