How biologists of Altai State University see the world

31 January 2017 Faculty of Biology
ASU Faculty of Biology has recently opened an exhibition of photographs made by winners of the World Viewed by Biologists Competition. Photos are presented in 5 different nominated categories: landscape, animals, plants, microcosm, nature and people.

The idea of conducting such a competition emerged about 2 years ago. ASU biologists perceived the idea with great enthusiasm, as they have a special view of the world around. Moreover, photo camera is an important instrument in biologist’s work, through which scientists show the natural wealth to uninitiated people.

The event is aimed at biology popularization and is held under the support of WWF Russia, Altai Krai Department for Environmental Resources and Ecology, Tigirekskiy Nature Reserve, AltaiNature Project, Altai Tourist Center and Barnaul Zoo. The project is intended to inspire a renewed interest in research, experiments and aesthetics of biology.

Over 200 photographs were submitted to the competition, but only the best ones were exposed at the exhibition. It is interesting to note that the participants included not only lecturers and students, but also school teachers, pupils, amateur and professional photographers, employees of nature reserves and museums, and even people unrelated to biology.

Photos made by the competition winners are provided below.
