ASU Rector Sergey V. Zemlyukov has announced that the university is planning to construct a new 8-storey campus building for the purposes of education and laboratory work. It will occupy an area of over 15,000 sq. km. Designers have already suggested a model of the future building. In 2017 estimate documentation will be developed. The building will be located in the center of Barnaul. It will have atrium, classrooms, laboratories, big event hall, underground car park and other necessary infrastructure.  The sources of financing have not been identified yet.

According to the Rector, there is much tension around the issue of extra space for educational purposes. In 2017 Altai State University will start reconstructing existing campus buildings and basement units. Thus, basement space of campus L has already been repaired and equipped for the needs of Russian-American Anti-Cancer Center and Scientific and Research Center for Biological Medicine. Moreover, ASU has taken one additional building on lease.

ASU Rector confirmed that the university lacks additional space:

“We experience a lack of space for carrying out educational and research activity. We have admitted hundreds of students this year. We could have admitted even more, but we didn’t, because of our critical need for classrooms. If we get financing, we will construct a new campus building and admit more students.”

It is to be reminded that ASU started constructing a new dormitory with 1,000 beds in 2016. The construction process will be finished this year. The university representatives note that they will be able to provide more foreign students with housing.
