Professor Manfred Frühauf was awarded the title of honorary doctor at Altai State University
Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg is one of the oldest European higher education establishments. It was established in 1817 as a result of a merger between two universities. Dr. Frühauf from Martin Luther University has been fruitfully cooperating with Altai State University for a long time, especially with the faculties of geography and biology. Faculty of Biology decided to express their gratitude to the German colleague for his hard work and grant him the title of the Honorary Doctor of Altai State University.
ASU Rector Sergey V. Zemlyukov presented Dr. Manfred Frühauf with an academic gown, a cap, a certificate and a bage of honor, while Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Doctor of Biology, Professor Marina M. Silantyeva delivered a congratulatory speech.
“Manfred Frühauf has initiated development of scientific and educational cooperation between Altai State University and leading academic organizations of Germany. Research of dry steppes in Altai Krai and Kazakhstan has been conducted under the supervision of Manfred Frühauf since 1996. In 2004 Altai State University and Martin Luther University signed an agreement on cultural and scientific cooperation at the Dr. Frühauf’s initiative. In 2007 we organized a joint program of supplementary education in the German language entitled “Environmental Monitoring and Management”. Students studying at Altai State University (Faculty of Geography, Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Chemistry and Faculty of Physics and Technology) have been participating in the program. In 2011 Dr. Frühauf initiated Kulunda project. The project was finished in September 2016 and Manfred Frühauf had been supervising it for the whole time. This project allowed us to expand and strengthen scientific and educational ties between lecturers and students of Altai State University and German academic institutions,” said Marina M. Silantyeva.
“My cooperative work with biologists and geographers of Altai State University has been fruitful and long-standing. I am sure that we will continue implementing joint projects and programs and will solve a lot of problems together,” summarized Dr. Manfred Frühauf.
