Construction of the 14-storey building B of the new dormitory has recently been completed.

The building has 227 rooms. The first floor is intended for people with limited mobility: there are 3 sections of two rooms for two people. There are 6 sections on each of the other floors: five sections of three rooms for two people and one two-room section for 2 and 3 people. There is a shower unit and a toilet room in each section. Each room has single beds, wardrobes, bedside tables, desks and chairs.

The 14-storey building B has everything provided for a comfortable stay. In particular, there are 7 rooms for self-study, 8 recreation rooms with comfortable furniture and TV, a kitchen with three stoves on each floor and washing rooms with two household washing machines. There are also 14 rooms for personal hygiene of women and a gym.

On October 25 student brigades started cleaning the rooms and assembling the furniture at the dormitory. The young people decided to help their university prepare the dormitory for accommodation of new residents in their free time on their own initiative. Student teams work here by two 4-hour shifts.

“The scale and quality of the construction is really impressive! In my opinion, these buildings will become the second home for many generations of students of Altai State University, and I am especially pleased that we are at the origins of this great business, helping to bring the dormitory buildings into a beautiful, clean shape,” foreman of the second shift, 4th year student of the Faculty of Mass Communications, Philology and Political Science Daniil Zhirnov said. “This is a new modern dormitory, which has all conveniences for young people. I think it is better than all the other dormitories on our city. Everything is just cool here! I wish I were a year younger and had an opportunity to live here for some time.”

In accordance with the project, every detail has been covered in the new dormitory of Altai State University. Vice-Rector for Security and General Issues of Altai State University Oleg Yu. Ilinykh specified that the builders are to completely finish all the works on landscaping by November holidays. Asphalt has been laid, lawns have been planted, a fence has been installed around the territory of the complex, tiling near the buildings is being finished.

The builders are also completing finishing works in the second residential 16-storey building A. The building of refectory has already been completed. All constructions works at the dormitory complex are to be finished by the end of November.

“Altai State University has provided everything needed for comfortable living in the dormitory. For example, blinds have been purchased for the recreation rooms and self-study rooms. The recreation rooms have also been fitted with sofas, armchairs, televisions, coffee tables, while the study rooms have been fitted with double and single desks,” Oleg Yu. Ilinykh noted.

Deans of the faculties and their representatives have recently been acquainted with the dormitory readiness state. In particular, director of the International Institute of Economics, Management and Information Systems Stepan I. Mezhov proudly noted that Altai State University had made a very important strategic and infrastructural breakthrough:

“Few universities can boast of construction of a new dormitory building in these days. I attended an opening ceremony of the eleven-storey dormitory of Novosibirsk State University in Akademgorodok (Academic Town), and it was a tremendous event for NSU and the whole city. But our dormitory is higher than Novosibirsk one and more convenient, as it is located in the center of the city, where the transport and academic buildings are close. Tomsk State University is also going to build a dormitory for 800 people. But we have set a high standard here as well, because our dormitory is designed for 1000 beds. So this is literally a breakthrough at the level of the entire federal district!”

Equally emotional, but more succinct assessment was given by Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Altai State University Viktor V. Polyakov:

“There is very little time left until the opening of a new comfortable dormitory of Altai State University, where everything is provided for autonomous living. There are rooms for two and three people, a refectory, Internet, washing machines, a gym. Special attention has been paid to the safety of living. Indeed, construction of a large and multifunctional building within a short period of time has been a heroic act for the whole university team!”
