ASU was ranked 91-100, while National Research University Higher School of Economics took the 38th place. QS Top 50 Under 50 Ranking was launched in 2012. It does not have a separate methodology and is formed on the basis of QS World University Rankings.

When compiling the global list, QS aligns with the following parameters: credibility in the field of scientific research, reputation of the university among employers, citation index of scientific publications, proportion of foreign students and foreign teachers, ratio of teachers and students.

Along with QS World University Rankings, QS Top 50 Under 50 is one of the most important ratings of QS agency. The goal is to identify the strongest young and promising universities of the world.

For Altai State University, entering the top 100 young universities of the world is an indicator of great success. Reputation accounts for at least 50% of the result, so it is correct to compare the results with universities of a similar age category. This is certainly another indicator in favor of the chosen strategy of reaching the level of international competitiveness.

The university entered the ranking thanks to system work on the development of international cooperation and the internationalization of its educational programs. In terms of the number of foreign students, Altai State University is among the top 500 universities of the world and occupies the 437th place of QS ranking (the 16th place among Russian universities). In addition, the share of foreign teachers and researchers in the university exceeds 3%.

Entering QS ranking is also explained by significant growth of scientific productivity at Altai State University. In recent years, Altai State University has established 16 joint scientific laboratories in cooperation with SB RAS institutes headed by leading Russian scientists, as well as Russian-American Anti-Cancer Center, realized 4 governmental mega-grants. This made it possible to significantly increase scientific productivity and ensure rapid growth of publication activity and citation, the growth of R&D volumes on orders from industrial partners and, ultimately, significantly increase the recognition of the university in the academic and the business community.

Over the past 5 years, the brand of the Altai State University has become recognizable not only in Russia but also beyond its borders and has a very high growth potential in the coming years. The development strategy of Altai State University as a flagship university of Russia and Altai Krai is aimed at qualitative changes, and entering the top 100 of QS world ranking of young universities reflects the significant growth of the competitiveness of Altai State University at the international level.
