From 20 to 21 September Altai State University will host a general meeting of the Association of Asian Universities.

The event will be attended by representatives of higher education institutions from Armenia, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan and Thailand.

Within the framework of the plenary session of the general meeting, it is planned to consider the issues of admitting and approving new members of the association, electing the new president of the organization, summing up the results of the work of the association in 2016–2017, discussing the development strategy of the association for subsequent years and measures to enhance the role of the member universities in international cooperation. The meeting will also include a presentation of a scientific journal, the reporter of the Association of Asian Universities entitled "Society and Public Safety".

Annually under the auspices of the association, a series of international scientific and educational events are held, the main of which is the Asian Student Forum. The execution of the general meeting is a significant event for the scientific and educational community, which allows providing broad information support, positioning the association in the Eurasian educational space and, ultimately, jump-starting the development of multilateral cooperation between the universities of Central and South Asia. The meeting will be held simultaneously with such a major event as the all-Russian conference on the development of regional universities.

The Association of Asian Universities was established to intensify cooperation and expand partnerships between educational institutions in the Asian region. In May 2013, delegations from 27 universities from 8 countries signed a Memorandum on the establishment of the Association of Asian Universities at ASU.

Over the past period, the Association of Asian Universities has established itself as one of the most dynamically developing international university associations. To date, the association includes more than 50 universities representing Armenia, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan and Thailand.
