Expert Analytical Center has published the fourth subject ranking of the Russian universities’ scientific productivity. This year, 125 universities from 44 cities passed the qualification for getting into the ranking on at least one subject (in comparison, in 2018 there were 105 universities from 37 cities).

ASU entered the TOP-10 universities of Russia in Humanities category and took the 8th position of the ranking between the participants of the 5-100 Project – Siberian Federal University and Kazan Federal University. It should be added that, apart from ASU, only 4 universities of the Siberian Federal District managed to pass the threshold requirements and were included in the ranking in this category, and all of them are flagship universities of Russia and participants of the 5-100 Project: Tomsk State University, Novosibirsk State University, Siberian Federal University and Tomsk Polytechnic University.

The ranking was based on three large blocks:

  • the scale and sustainability of the university’s research activities (how large and quoted are the research teams of the university conducting research in this subject area);
  • the relevance of scientific activity (the level of journals in which researchers are published and the average number of quotes per article);
  • the quality of growth (the quality of citations and index of concentration of publications in journals, exclusion of opportunistic practices of increasing publications).

ASU has been included in the ranking for the Humanities category by Expert Center for the third time. Last year, ASU took the 15th place in this ranking among all universities of Russia, while in 2016 it took the 19th place. The university's rapid growth in the ranking contributes to the emergence of publications of ASU scientists in the TOP-3 of the most influential and cited journals in the world – over the past 5 years, 4 articles have been published in Nature journal, 2 articles in Science journal and 1 article in Science Advances journal. In addition, in 2018, Altai State University signed a memorandum of cooperation with one of the most famous universities in the world and the oldest US higher education establishment – Harvard University. In accordance with the signed memorandum, the parties pledged to develop academic mobility programs for students and teachers of both educational institutions, in particular, to exchange students for research and training, exchange of teachers, staff and scientists for conducting joint classes and research activities, organizing seminars, workshops, conferences, short-term training programs, etc.
