ASU scientists participate in the opening of AKTRU-2019 international symposium

On July 8, the International Symposium on Life and Earth Sciences and Sustainable Global and Regional Development AKTRU-2019 has started on the premises of the Manzherok tourist complex in Altai Republic.

The opening of the forum, which is organized jointly by Tomsk State University, Altai State University, Gorno-Altaisk State University and the University of Arizona, was attended by about 50 representatives of various scientific schools from 9 countries of the world.

During the opening ceremony and the plenary session, representatives of the participating universities from St. Petersburg, Tomsk, Copenhagen, Logan (Utah, USA) addressed the participants of AKTRU-2019 with a welcoming speech. Head of the ASU delegation, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Development Roman I. Raikin also appealed to the audience.

“The symposium was opened by multidisciplinary reports by scientists from St. Petersburg State University, Tomsk State University, Altai State University, the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, our colleagues from Denmark, the USA and Japan. There was a lively discussion on the stated topics. The beginning was very interesting, and tomorrow the work of the symposium will be continued by summer international schools devoted to various areas of life and earth sciences, as well as to sustainable global and regional development,” Roman Raikin said.

Being a co-organizer of the scientific symposium, Altai State University opens the Summer International School on Altai Flora Research on July 9, which will be attended by leading Russian and foreign specialists in the field of botany: Marina V. Olonova, Professor of the Biological Institute at Tomsk State University, Mary Barkworth, PhD, Assistant Professor at the University of Utah (USA), Jeffrey E. Dick, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of North Carolina (USA), and Ekaterina Dick from the University of North Carolina (USA).

The section on biodiversity will be supervised by the director of the South-Siberian Botanical Garden of ASU, Doctor of Biology, Professor Alexander I. Shmakov and a biologist from the University of Utah (USA) Mary Barkworth.

“Within the framework of the botanical school, we will discuss the concept of Altai flora, textual variants, database variants, and the acquaintance of young researchers with the eminent scientists’ competencies,” Alexander Shmakov said.

It remains to be added that the symposium and summer schools will be held from July 8 to 19, 2019 in Altai Republic on the premises of Chemal Training Base of Altai State University and Aktru Research Station of Tomsk State University.
