ASU scientists participate in the first meeting of the Economic Council of the Regions of Greater Altai

On October 11, the first meeting of the Economic Council of the Regions of Greater Altai took place, in which scientists from Altai State University took an active part.

The activities of the Economic Council are aimed at coordinating cooperation in the sphere of economics and trade, promoting economic progress and creating conditions for the further development of the regions of Greater Altai. The decision to create it was made as part of the implementation of the Development Strategy of the International Coordination Council “Our Common Home – Altai”, which was developed by ASU scientists in 2018.

The event brought together the representatives of Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China. The main topic of presentations was the development of trade and economic cooperation, transport and engineering infrastructure to strengthen ties between the border territories of Greater Altai. Achievements and problems were noted, as well as suggestions were made about the need and possibilities for developing interregional economic cooperation.

As part of the discussion of certain areas of international cooperation, ASU scientists A.N. Dunets, I.N. Rotanova and M.M. Butakova presented the results of studies and developed proposals for interregional interaction.

Dean of the Faculty of Geography A.N. Dunets touched upon the development of the tourism sector, which was noted as the most promising direction in international cooperation. Candidate of Economics M.M. Butakova analyzed economic relations in Greater Altai, identified priorities in trade relations. Candidate of Geography I.N. Rotanova made a proposal to create an international geographic information and cartographic resource – the Atlas of Greater Altai within the framework of digitalization of society. ASU scientists’ ideas met with a generous response from the participants of the Economic Council and were included in the Resolution of the event.

At the end of the meeting of the Economic Council, the Memorandum on the main directions of economic cooperation of the regions of Greater Altai was solemnly signed.
