Altai and Chinese archaeologists prepare for work on a secret project
Details of the international project are currently kept secret. It is known that the joint research will be carried out by scientists from Russia, Mongolia, China and Kazakhstan. These are the countries of the so-called Great Altai, territories, where people with general culture used to live in ancient times. It is expected that the archaeological research will be carried out mostly in Altai Krai and Altai Republic.
“The fact is that out colleagues from China show great interest in southern territories of Russia. Similar work is carried out in the Far East and Southern Siberia. This is a very large project, which will unite archaeologists working for different establishments. I think that the biggest part pf the project and work will be held in Altai, but it will be settled in the procedure of preliminary arrangement,” Anatoly P. Derevyanko said.
Preliminary arrangement with Chinese party was reached in the course of the visit by lecturers and students of the Faculty of History of Nanjing University to Chemalsky District. Nanjing University and Altai State University carried out joint archaeological training there this year. It is to be noted that this is not the only joint project, which is to be realized by Russian and Chinese parties.
It is planned that prior to construction of The Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline the scientists will carry out archaeological excavations on that territory.
