The Cybermetrics Lab research group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has published another edition of Webometrics Ranking Web of Repositories.

Altai State University has improved its positions among Russian universities since January 2016 and has climbed up from the 17th to the 9th position.

Russian segment of the ranking is represented by 24 academic organizations. Altai State University is the only higher educational establishment of Altai Krai listed in the ranking. ASU outranked such leading Russian universities as Saint-Petersburg State University, South Ural State University, Kazan Federal University, Tver State Technical University and so on.

Position of ASU in world ranking has also improved a lot. Altai State University has gone up from the 1878th to the 1217th place.

Webometrics holds a unique position among respected international rankings. Estimation of world’s universities is based on the analysis of their web-sites. The ranking has been conducted since 2004 by international research group Laboratorio de Internet, which studies educational and scientific activities on the Internet. The results are updated every January and July. Unlike other international rankings of universities (British, Shanghai, Taiwan and others) that focus on characteristics of academic elite, Webometrics pays attention to all spheres of universities’ activities. The purpose of the project is to increase universities’ and scientific and research institutes’ Web performance and to promote open publication of their research results.
