ASU lecturer participated in the 26th International Educational Christmas Readings

On January 23–26, 2018, the 26th International Educational Christmas Readings dedicated to moral values and the future of humanity were held.

International Educational Christmas Readings are a church-public forum in the field of education, culture, social service and spiritual and moral education. It is carried out in Moscow at the beginning of the year under the honorary presidency of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia and gathers several thousand participants.

Members of the Holy Synod and the Supreme Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, representatives of the Federation Council, State Duma deputies, members of the Government, regional public, representatives of denominations, public organizations, scientists, artists, principals and teachers of schools and gymnasiums, rectors, lecturers and students of higher educational institutions, spiritual schools, representatives of the social sphere, law enforcement agencies, etc. took part in the readings.

This year, more than 15,000 participants from Russia and abroad took part in the events within the framework of the international stage of readings in Moscow.

Altai State University was represented by I.V. Antonovich, Candidate of Sociology, Assistant Professor of the Department of Social Work at the Faculty of Sociology.

The event hosted a total of about 70 sites. Sections, round tables, discussion platforms worked for three days. Most of the sites were working in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, as well as in the universities of Moscow (St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University and Russian Orthodox University), theological seminaries, educational, cultural and spiritual educational centers, schools, museums, theaters, and social institutions.

Irina Antonovich managed to take part and deliver reports at the following events: round tables "Charity as a Spiritual Need and Historical Tradition of Russian Society", "Participation of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Prevention and Combating HIV/AIDS", "Social Service of Religious Communities - Interfaith Exchange Experience".

According to Patriarch Kirill, the Christmas Readings are a unique forum in which both clergy and laity can discuss all the challenges of the modern world and the ways to solve them.

The trip was possible thanks to the grant support of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.
