Students of the Institute of Biology and Biotechnology held an action in defense of marine mammals

5 March 2020 Institute of Biology and Biotechnology

February 19 is declared Marine Mammal Protection Day. Many people are unaware of the existence of such a day. That is why the participants of the environmental club "Open Air" decided to tell students and employees of AltSU about the importance of these animals.

The intense and merciless extermination of marine mammals and, in particular, whales, has been going on for more than 200 years and adversely affects their numbers - many representatives of Cetaceans were on the verge of extinction.

But they are sensitive indicators of the state of the marine systems of the planet and an important link in the biosphere exchange cycle of the World Ocean! They create the stability of the biological cycle of matter in the ecological system. Therefore, a reduction in the number of whales and other marine animals leads to a disturbance in the biological balance in marine ecosystems.

After all, every extinct species are an irreplaceable loss - everything that disappears in the animal life disappears forever!
