ASU lecturer co-authored the most interesting patent for the invention of 2019

Russian Federal Agency for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks has identified the top 10 most interesting patents for the invention of 2019.

The first place in the ranking was given to the project, co-authored by Dmitry Shcherbakov, lecturer at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technologies of Altai State University, – a drug for suppressing the Ebola virus. This is not the first drug invented against Ebola, but it has low toxicity unlike existing analogues.

Ebola fever is an acute illness accompanied by high levels of morbidity and mortality. That is why Russian Federal Agency for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks considers the low-toxic remedy for this disease the most important invention of 2019.

Also the top ten inventions included:

  • catalyst for highly environmentally friendly motor fuels;
  • medicine against atherosclerosis;
  • a package of assistance for people at risk of developing heart disease;
  • microorganisms that help cleanse water bodies;
  • safety enhancing system at nuclear power plants;
  • a system based on artificial intelligence technology that recognizes a wide range of characters;
  • a system based on big data technology that allows you to determine the optimal installation location of the ATM;
  • “Yandex” algorithm based on machine learning, increasing the accuracy of providing the user with the necessary information;
  • fire extinguishing agent from Gazprom.

Dmitry Shcherbakov is a Candidate of Biology, Assistant Professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technologies of Altai State University, Head of the Immunochemistry Laboratory in the Bioengineering Department of the Vector State Virology and Biotechnology Research Center, and author of many developments in the field of virology and biotechnology. The most famous are inventing the drug for suppressing the Ebola virus; obtaining recombinant chymosin produced by mammalian stomach cells and used for the production of rennet cheese; developing the technology for the mobile cultivation of edible mushrooms.
