On 4 October 2016 famous virtuoso guitarist from Spain Angel Ontalva presented his new program at ASU Concert Hall.

Angel combines avant-garde, jazz, modern classical music, avant-garde rock, experimental music, progressive rock, fusion, free improvisation and folk in his compositions. In Spain he is quite famous for improvisation and art in general. He takes an active part in different musical bands (the main one is considered to be October Equus) and even draws.

Ontalva works with Russian performers a lot. His partners include musicians from Kemerovo, Tomsk, Irkutsk and Moscow, so his compositions are filled with not only Mediterranean and North African tunes, but also with Slavic ones.

“Ontalva’s music is entirely free and sometimes uncompromisingly rough due to its deep meaningfulness and honesty. Literally everybody likes listening to it, from professionals to amateurs. Angel’s projects is a rare case of “avant-garde with a human face”, which makes new listeners not smile or reject the songs, but try figuring out their idea,” noted the specialists of Nizhny Novgorod Center of German and European Culture.

In 2014 Angel Ontalva and Sine Seawave musical band from Tomsk created a joint project called “No Grooves”. The first result of such collaboration has been the concert album, which was recorded while performing at Chelyabinsk Philharmonic Hall.

In autumn 2016 No Grooves went touring with a new program that is a continuation of Angel’s Canterbury, ethnic, jazz and rock works. This very program was presented on 4 October 2016 at ASU Concert Hall.

After the concert guitarist thanked the organizers, ASU Cultural Education Center for the warm welcome and hospitality and made a note in the Book for Honoured Guests of ASU Concert Hall.

“I have been playing in Barnaul for the first time. This is the unforgettable experience. Thank you for your invitation and hospitality. I promise to come back soon!”
