Students of the Law Institute of Altai State University took part in the debate tournament under the motto "We are young, we choose"

On October 20, with the participation of students from Kazakhstan and Russia, a debate tournament was held under the slogan "We are young, we choose!"

5 teams took part in the tournament, including two teams from the Law Institute of Altai State University. The organizers of the tournament are PF “Kazakhstan International Fund for Legal Cooperation”, East Kazakhstan Regional Election Commission and S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan State University . The goal of the debate tournament is to increase the level of legal and electoral culture of young voters, interest in studying electoral law and the electoral process, foster an active civic position of the younger generation through a discussion that attracts the attention of young people to a given topic. In connection with the coronavirus pandemic, the debate was held online.

The chairman of the East Kazakhstan Regional Election Commission E.A. Nabiev welcomed the participants:
“Youth is the most important social and electoral resource of society. We are interested in the participation of young people in the social and political life of the republic and the country, in elections - both as voters and as organizers of elections, candidates, and other participants in the electoral process. And it is very important for us to hear the opinion of young people themselves".

Doctor of Law, Deputy of the Ust-Kamenogorsk city maslikhat K.Kh. Rakhimberdin said that "debate is an excellent technology for developing leadership qualities and competencies that are necessary for future lawyers".

The chairman of the jury was Chairman of the East Kazakhstan regional election commission, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor E.A. Nabiev. The members of the jury were Doctor of Law, Deputy of the Ust-Kamenogorsk Maslikhat K.Kh. Rakhimberdin, lawyer of the East Kazakhstan branch of the "Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights" A.M. Zhapalova. In an honest and interesting debate, the following teams became the winners:
The first place took "Young Lawyers" of the Law Institute of Altai State University (Mograbyan Marine group 373, Semenov Alexander group 373); the second place - "Optimists" of the Law Institute of Altai State University (Remmikh Ekaterina, gr. 373, Ivanova Polina, gr. 373); the third place - "KAFU Leaders" of the Kazakh-American Free University (Drepin Vadim, Batinov Daniyar); the fourth place - the team "Femida" of S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University named after (Bauyrzhanova Shynar, Erikova Asel); the fifth place - "Hamilton and Jefferson" of S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University (Kemaladin Erbolat, Fillipov Dmitry).

The organizers of the debates awarded the winners with diplomas. The organizers of the debate tournament especially noted Head of the teams of Altai State University, Acting Head of the Department of Constitutional and International Law, Candidate of Juridical Sciences, Associate Professor Ignatovskaya Irina for the professional training of debaters.

The debate participant Marina Mograbyan shared her impressions:
“For many of us, this was the first experience of participating in international debates, we got a lot of positive emotions, heard how certain situations in another state are regulated, thereby expanding our knowledge in these areas, and also shared our knowledge. Our university noticed and emphasized the organization of this event. We all express our gratitude to the organizers of the event! "

Representatives of student youth asked to hold debate tournaments on topical issues of law on a regular basis and involve as many youth as possible in this process.

As a result, it can be noted that an increasing number of Kazakhstani youth today take an active civic position, being interested in problems in the field of electoral law and the electoral process, increasing electoral activity, participating in the preparation and conduct of elections.
