Institute of Geography of Altai State University presented a master's program in spatial analytics and environmental management in Central Asia

On October 30, the Institute of Geography hosted a strategic session dedicated to the new master's program “Spatial Analytics and Environmental Management in Central Asia”.

"Master's program 05.04.02 Geography, profile "Spatial analytics and environmental management in Central Asia", is implemented in the framework of the scientific and educational project "Turkic-Mongolian world of the Greater Altai: unity and diversity in history and modernity”.

"The main goal is to get a degree that allows the graduate to work successfully in the areas of spatial analytics, environmental management and environmental protection, form general cultural and professional competencies, develop skills and their implementation in practice, contributing to the demand in the labor market in Russia and the Central Asian region. The graduate will get an idea of the current state and ways of integrating spatial analytics, cartography, geoinformatics, characterized by the commonality of their theoretical concepts, principles of collection, storage and processing of primary data”, commented O.A. Latysheva, Head of the educational program.

S.S. Slazhneva, developer of the educational program of the Institute of Geography, spoke about the uniqueness of the main professional educational program, the partners of the program and the draft curriculum: “The uniqueness of the program is expressed in the following: the only one in Altai Krai and the Siberian Federal District; individual learning path; network with the participation of foreign universities and partner organizations; active and interactive forms of conducting classes; organization of practices by order of partner organizations”.

The educational professional program is implemented on the basis of a modular principle of teaching, the content and scope of which may vary depending on: didactic goals; profile and level differentiation of students; desires of students to choose an individual trajectory of the movement of learning.

A.V. Egorina, Professor, Head of the educational program (East Kazakhstan State University named after S. Amanzholov) proposed to include natural science concepts and methodology of scientific knowledge in the curriculum.

N.L. Shapekova, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences (L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University) spoke about the possibility of implementing this master's program in a network format with ENU. L.N. Gumilyov.

N.E. Ramazanov, Head of the Department Physical and Economic Geography (L.N. Gumilyov’s Eurasian National University) spoke about the need for joint research practices of students enrolled in this master's program.

Based on the results of speeches, proposals and discussion of the program, we decided: to take as a basis the concept of the program 05.04.02 Geography, profile "Spatial analytics and environmental management in Central Asia"; to approve the strategy of joint development of educational documentation in the direction of 05.04.02 Geography, profile "Spatial analytics and environmental management in Central Asia" with the East Kazakhstan State University named after S. Amanzholov and the Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov.
