Honoured Master of Sports of the Russian Federation Sergey Shubenkov visited ASU

Today ASU graduate and World Champion Sergey Shubenkov visited Altai State University as a guest. His name is going to be added to ASU Wall of Fame.

Sergey graduated from ASU in 2012. He defended a graduate thesis on “Civil Regulation of International Aviation Operations”. His life has changed a lot since that moment. He has not only become successful but also a popular sportsman and a media person. Moreover, this summer he got married to his old friend Anna, also an ASU graduate. Fortunately, Sergey did not obtain the star sickness. He is still an easy-going, kind person and he still loves his alma mater.

It was understood he was not star struck when he met ASU students in one of the campus buildings. Sergey talked to them, signed autographs on students’ T-shirts and copybooks, made some commemorative pictures, and only after that went to see ASU Rector Sergey V. Zemlyukov, Vice-Rector for Educational Work Evgeny S. Anichkin and Director of the Department of Extracurricular and Educational Work Anton A. Tselevitch.

First of all, Sergey Shubenkov congratulated ASU on a big sport achievement – the Universiade Cup, which ASU won for the first time. He remembered how eager they wanted to reach such result when he was a student.

“I was more interested in my studies than in sport when I was a 1-3 year student. Then I was getting my first victories, so sport has become an essential part of my life. I almost forgot about my diploma. But then I set a goal to finish my graduate thesis and become a professional specialist. Due to my athletic tempering and a desire to reach the finish line, I managed to handle both sport and education. By the way, in 2012 I not only graduated but also set some sports records”, - said the sportsman.

Sergey added he would be happy to take part in all ASU events as a judge, participant or speaker.

In his turn, Rector offered Sergey joining the Healthy Lifestyle Campaign, which is conducted among ASU students, and adding ASU to Sergey Shubenkov Tournament organizers list, that was first held in December 2014.

At the end of the meeting Sergey was offered to become an Honoured Chairman of the ASU Sports Club “University”. Rector also presented Shubenkov the Certificate on adding his name to the ASU Graduates Wall of Fame.
