ASU biologists have participated in the celebration of International Day of Snow Leopard, which took place on October 10 in spite of bad weather conditions.

“We, ecological club activists, were happy to take part in “Visit the Snow Leopard” campaign and hope that this is just the beginning of our cooperation with WWF. When we found out about the campaign oriented to attract attention to problems of snow leopards preservation in Altai-Sayan ecoregion, we couldn’t stay indifferent to their extinction. Hope, we have succeeded in contributing to this beautiful creatures’ conservation,” said Faculty of Biology student Ekaterina Fedkevitch.

Students enjoyed the event and think it was rather helpful, because it makes people learn more about species extinction. They have also made a video film in order to highlight the problem. Everyone remembers that the number of snow leopards decreases, but few people know it has already reached the critical level. Not long ago there was the same problem with Amur tigers, but now the situation is getting better due to the similar events conduction. The students hope that snow leopard story will follow the same scenario.

The Faculty of Biology has a long-standing tradition of working with rare and endangered species. Its lecturers and students take part in different flora and fauna conservation programs in Altai Krai, other Russian regions and abroad. Currently they stick to cooperation with WWF, which is supposed to be long-lasting and productive.

“It doesn’t matter, how far from us snow leopards live. We want them to be a part of our planet as long as possible,” – say the Faculty of Biology students.
