ASU biologists help preserving the wildlife areas

28 November 2015 Faculty of Biology

ASU botanists have developed procedures that will be used for the purpose of carrying out ecological expert examination of any wildlife area of the country.

On November 27 the final stage of state ecological expert examination of conservation areas at Kislukhinskiy wildlife sanctuary took place at Altai Krai Natural Resources and Ecology Administration. The sanctuary’s territory is characterized by floral diversity, great number of red listed plants, presence of benchmark and unique natural complexes (spruce and pine forests, swamps).

Zonation of conservation areas was conducted on the basis of natural complexes’ value and their preservation rate; faunistic zonation method; presence of rare and endangered birds’ nesting places, capercaillie lek and so on. In conservation areas all kinds of woodcutting, except for sanitary ones, will be prohibited; it will contribute to preservation of unique ecosystems of the wildlife sanctuary. Sanctuary inspection and materials preparation was conducted by Faculty of Biology staff and students in 2014–2015 under the supervision of Doctor of Biology, Professor, Faculty of Biology Dean Marina M. Silantyeva.
