Developing collaboration between ASU and Japanese universities

Altai State University continues to boost its scientific and educational cooperation with Japanese universities. In 2015 ASU has not only strengthened the productive scientific contacts in such areas as archaeology, astrophysics, botany and entomology, but has also gave a new impulse to academic mobility projects.

In July 2015 Vice-Rector for International Affairs Development Roman I. Raikin visited Saitama University, met the university authorities, conducted a number of lectures and seminars for students and high school pupils, and delivered a report in front of postgraduate students and Faculty of Science academic staff.

Three months later the return visit of Vice-President for International Affairs of Saitama University, Professor Seiichiro Nakabayashi took place. Professor Nakabayashi got acquainted to the structure of the classical university, its scientific potential, visited several classrooms, and conducted negotiations with ASU authorities.

On 10 September 2015 the 12th meeting of the Russian-Japanese Intergovernmental Commission for Scientific and Technical Cooperation chaired by Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Veniamin Sh. Kaganov and Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Makoto Katsura. R.I. Raikin was invited by the Ministry of Education and Science to deliver a speech on the current situation and prospects for cooperation between ASU and Japanese universities.

In October 2015 in the framework of “New Generation” program of Rossotrudnichestvo Federal Agency the School for Young Scientists “Altai-Asia” was organized on the premises of Altai State University. It brought together 30 participants from Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Laos, India, Pakistan, China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Kirgizstan and Tajikistan.
Professor of Saitama University, physicist Naritaka Kobayashi visited ASU with other members of the international scientists delegation. It is symbolic that shortly before the School beginning there were 2015 Nobel laureates in physics announced with Saitama University alumnus Takaaki Kajita among them for the discovery of neutrino oscillations.

Finally, in December 2015 the Agreement on Academic Exchange between ASU and Saitama University was signed. The Agreement provides that two ASU representatives will be able to go to the Japanese partner-university for a free internship for up to one year in 2016. Moreover, in March 2016 the conduction of the Youth School for Saitama University students is planned.

Another Japanese partner-university, where ASU students can go for an internship, is Kanazawa University. This university invites ASU students to take part in internships in the framework of the mutual agreement on academic exchanges. It is also ready to provide consulting assistance in receiving Japanese government scholarships Monbukagakusho.
