Deputy Minister for Education and Science of Russia highly appreciated performance of ASU

On 22 September 2017 Deputy Minister for Education and Science of the Russian Federation Valentina V. Pereverzeva paid a work visit to Altai State University.

Rector of Altai State University Sergey V. Zemlyukov, Vice Head of Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science Natalia A. Naumova, Rector of Timiryazev Russian State Agrarian University Galina D. Zolina, Chairman of Council of Federation Committee for Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management Mikhail P. Shchetinin, Vice Chairman of the Government in Altai Krai Alexander N. Lukianov, Vice Chairman of the Government in Altai Krai Nadezhda A. Kapura, and Minister for Education and Science in Altai Krai Alexander A. Zhidkikh attended the meeting.

Opening the meeting, Rector of ASU Sergey V. Zemlyukov briefly presented general information about the university and noted that Altai State University had become a flagship higher education establishment of Altai Krai and Russia in 2017. Sergey V. Zemlyukov also spoke on successful performance of the university in prestigious international and Russian rankings, work of small innovative enterprises on the base of the university, dissertation councils, and dynamics of admission campaign in 2017.

“Altai State University admitted 19 competition winners this year. By way of comparison, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) admitted 33 competition winners, who occupied all the state-funded places. This is a great achievement, considering the fact that Altai State University is a regional higher education establishment,” emphasized Valentina V. Pereverzeva.

Rector of ASU told Deputy Minister about the key principles of university’s innovative educational activity, system of work with talented pupils and successful students, new educational programs approved by the Government of Altai Krai, and system of cooperation with Central Asian universities. Valentina V. Pereverzeva got especially interested in educational program in Pharmacy. Sergey V. Zemlyukov explained that Altai State University started training chemical technologists due to critical deficiency of specialists in chemistry and biology.

In the course of the meeting ASU Rector also touched upon key directions of academic work at the university, laboratories created on the premises of ASU together with institutes of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian-American Anti-Cancer Center, and Prombiotech engineering center and took the guests on excursion around the university and its laboratories.
