Movie about falcons was directed by ASU graduate

The first showing of The Falcons movie, which had been directed by ASU graduate Irina Bayeva, was held on 14 September 2017 at Altai State University in the framework of ecological, educational and scientific module of The III Asian Student Forum “Altai-Asia – 2017”.

The movie was also presented in the framework of International Scientific Youth Conference “Relevant Directions in Research of Biological Diversity”. The presentation took place on 26 September 2017 at the South-Siberian Botanic Garden, which is located in the immediate vicinity to Altai-Falcon, a nursery for rare birds.

The Falcons movie is in the Russian language, but there are English subtitles provided.

“The Falcons is a scientific documentary about activites of Altai-Falcon nursery in breeding of endangered falcons – Falco cherrug and Falco peregrinus. The movie shows the process of breeding falcons in captivity, from mating and hatching to releasing an adult bird into the wold. It also features training of young birds for falconry,” Irina Bayeva commented.

Irina Bayeva, who graduated from the Faculty of Biology of Altai State University, is an author of idea, a director, a cameraman and a cutter of the movie. Irina started her career in cinematography 7 years ago, when she was shooting wildlife for a competition at the faculty organized by Assistant Professor at the Department of Botany A.V. Vaganov. Alexey V. Vaganov provided his own camera for filming. Irina’s first movie was called “What Do Zoologists Do”.

Equipment for shooting and cutting of The Falcons movie was provided by Information Technologies Department of Altai State University. The film crew express their gratitude for that to head of the department M.A. Ryazanov. Voiceover by teaching assistant of the Department of Zoology and Physiology Sergey Polovinkin.
