On February 8 Altai State University celebrated Russian Science Day. A meeting of the Joint Scientific and Technical Council of the university devoted to the holiday was organized.

The meeting, where the main achievements of ASU scientists’ research and innovation activities for 2018 were presented, was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Altai Krai Inessa A. Dolzhenko, Chairman of the Health and Science Committee of Altai Krai Legislative Assembly Alexander Lazarev, Deputy Head of Altai Krai Department for Food Processing, Pharmaceutical Industry and Biotechnology Alexander A. Kondykov, Chief Specialist of the Department for Transfer and Commercialization of Technologies under the Ministry of Economic Development of Altai Krai Olga V. Velichko, representative of the Committee for Youth Affairs under the Barnaul City Administration Svyatoslav A. Semyanov, as well as scientists and students of the university.

While opening the meeting, Acting Rector of ASU, Sergey N. Bocharov recalled that people in Russia treated science differently at different times. Nowadays, the scientific community has its own professional holiday, which we have been celebrating for 20 years on February 8, which is the day when the Russian Academy of Sciences was established.

“Today, scientists of Altai State University demonstrate impressive results with their achievements. So, for example, let’s look at the number of articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. In 2018 our university reached the level of research universities on this indicator. We have a good gain in financing small innovative enterprises, well-established serious scientific schools that are recognized throughout the world, and youth initiatives are working fruitfully. All this is only a small part of those achievements, which the scientists of the flagship university can be proud of. And I have no doubt that Altai State University will also achieve great results in the new year,” Acting Rector of Altai State University stressed.

On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Science of Altai Krai Inessa A. Dolzhenko, Acting Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Altai Krai, wished ASU scientists and students happy Science Day and noted that science has always been one of the fundamental tools of social and economic transformation in the region:

“In the structure of the research potential of Altai Krai, university science is growing at a more active pace. So, for example, in 2008, the share of university science in the total amount of scientific research in our region was about 10 percent, but now it is already one third of the total amount of scientific research in the region. Altai State University takes a special place in the development of science in Altai Krai. The status of the flagship university makes it a key research platform in the region. Therefore, we wish you not only to confidently keep the established level of scientific achievements, but also conduct new breakthrough research, attain financial well-being and encourage systematic development of scientific research.”

For the third time in a row, on the Russian Science Day, flagship Altai State University organized the presentation of a memorial sign “The Flame of Science”, symbolizing the desire for knowledge and enlightenment.

“The memorial sign, which we have been presenting for three years now, symbolizes the desire for scientific research, service to the cause of education. We try to annually select the most striking results among the scientists and research teams of ASU, which are certainly the most significant and productive,” Vice Rector for Scientific and Innovative Development of ASU Evgeni S. Popov said.
