ASU celebrates Knowledge Day at the University Courtyard

On September 2, a festive event was held at Altai State University dedicated to the Day of Knowledge and the beginning of the new academic year.

By tradition, all first-year students and lecturers of the flagship university began this day with the parade of the faculties’ delegations at the main building of Altai State University. At 10am, students and lecturers entered the courtyard through the symbolic Gate of Knowledge holding flags and banners. There they were welcomed by the rector and professors of Altai State University, representatives of the executive and legislative branches of the regional government, the State Duma and University Alumni Council.

Sergey N. Bocharov, Rector of Altai State University, opened the ceremony with a speech:

“The Day of Knowledge is a landmark event for each of us. After all, education plays a huge role in the life of every person, helps to form a vibrant, multifaceted, holistic personality and find your way in life. We are pleased to welcome our first-year students who entered the flagship university of Altai Krai, the leading university of Russia. I am sure that you will not regret your choice and will be able to form the groundwork for your future successful career. Studying is not easy! Despite the fact that the teaching staff of ASU will help you, much still depends on you. Only through labor, determination, self-discipline can we achieve a result and reach the heights of your chosen profession. On this day I thank the faculties of Altai State University for their daily work, for their tireless search, for their willingness to share their experience, for their patience and high professionalism.”

The hosts of the festive event informed the first-year students that Altai State University had more than 14 thousand students and postgraduates; 10 faculties, 3 institutes and college; 4 research institutes; 4 branches in Altai Krai and 14 representative centers in Russia and neighboring countries; 32 basic departments and branches of departments at leading enterprises and organizations of the region; 16 joint laboratories with the Research Institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Institute of Continuing Professional Education, etc.

The best student of ASU handed the symbolic Key to Knowledge to the best applicant of the flagship university, and a giant student identification card was presented to all first-year students of the university. The morning celebration ended with the launch of balloons into the sky to the sounds of the university anthem.

In the evening the celebrations continued with an open air concert.
