All July Professor of the Department of Ecology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biology of Altai State University, Doctor of Biology Roman V. Yakovlev spent the whole month of July in Tajikistan participating in an expedition.

The trip was very interesting due to the international team, which included citizens of Germany, Israel and Russia. The main task was to study the biodiversity of remote areas of Tajikistan, such as Peter the Great Range and the Pamir Mountains.

The trip was quite successful. The entomologists managed to visit more than 10 different points of the republic, including such remote areas as Shugnan, Rushan and other points of the Western Pamir. Significant amount of material that will be processed during the winter was collected.

R.V. Yakovlev commented on the outcome of the trip:

“Basically, we achieved everything we wanted. We visited a lot of beautiful places, because Tajikistan is just a storehouse of biodiversity. We managed to collect a lot of material for one of my projects. The foreign colleagues were also pleased. As always, the peoples of Tajikistan and Badakhshan amazed us with their cordiality and friendliness. The gathered materials will form the basis of a number of publications in highly rated journals, in particular, one of the new projects in molecular phylogeny of the genus Hyles carried out together with German colleagues. It is also important that I met with the directors of the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, refreshed contacts with the employees of Tajik National University and Russian-Tajik Slavonic University. The next trip to Tajikistan is scheduled for October. I will go to Khujand to participate in an international conference, where I am invited to deliver a plenary report. In conclusion, I would like to thank the staff of the International Relations Office, especially Sakina Nazarshoeva, for the tremendous help in preparing the logistics of the expedition to the Pamir Mountains!”
