Andrey I. Shapoval, Director of the Russian-American Anti-Cancer Center of flagship Altai State University, took part in the Festival of Biologics 2019, an international festival of biochemistry, biopharmaceuticals and medical research, held in Basel, Switzerland.

The outstanding event is annually held in Europe. It combined several theme-based sections: the European Antibody Congress, the World Immunotherapy Congress, the World Biosimilar Congress and the Clinical Trials World Congress. The festival organizers created a scientific platform, which received more than 1000 participants and 300 speakers, in order to bridge the gap between academic science and pharmaceutical industry.

Being a member of the section on immune response monitoring, Andrey I. Shapoval delivered a report on the developments of Altai State University Russian-American Anti-Cancer Center in the field of immunotherapeutic peptides.

“I am impressed with the results of the festival and I am glad that my report aroused keen interest among the colleagues. It was interesting to get acquainted with other speakers’ topics and the level of their research. Almost all participants use recombinant technologies to create therapeutic biological preparations. Methods of flow cytometry and next generation sequencing (NGS) are widely used to study the therapeutic properties of biological products. We are developing these technologies in our center, “ Andrey I. Shapoval said. “I had an opportunity to talk with exhibitors at the Festival and evaluate the modern development of biological industry. Interestingly, many companies are focused on providing services for the production of monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins, and I hope that in the near future we will be able to establish such a service at the Anti-Cancer Center."

ASU scientist added that, having become acquainted with the achievements of European scientific institutes, we can state the fact that the work of the Russian-American Anti-Cancer Center corresponds to the global level.
