AltSU won the grant competition of the Federal Program for Genetic Technologies Development for 2019–2027

The project of the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences “Herbarium funds of biological diversity of plants and fungi of the Collection Fund of the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Modernization, Development, and Networking as the Basis for Fundamental Research and Improvement of Genetic Technologies” received support within the framework of the implementation of certain activities of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for Genetic Technologies Development for 2019-2027 under lot II “Bioresource Collections.”

The Komarov Botanical Institute RAS is a partner of AltSU’s consortium "Study and conservation of biodiversity and genetic resources of North and Central Asia" in the framework of the application for the Program "Priority - 2030".

“Trust and working relations have long been established between the South Siberian Botanical Garden of Altai State University and the leading botanical institution of our country. At the conference "Problems of Botany of Southern Siberia and Mongolia", which will take place next week at our university, the director of the Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and leading scientists will speak at the plenary session. We hope that the implementation of the joint project will make it possible to achieve significant results that are so necessary for university and academic science today,” comments Director of the South Siberian Botanical Garden of AltSU, Professor, Doctor of Biological Sciences  Alexander Shmakov. “As part of joint research, it is planned to create a database of genome sizes of economically valuable, rare, and endemic plants, supported by a digital image of the herbarium leaf from the ALTB funds of the South Siberian Botanical Garden and information about the collection sites. In addition, it is planned to hold in two years the fourth all-Russian scientific and practical school "Flow cytometry and molecular phylogeny of plants" on the basis of the Laboratory of Bioengineering of the Altai State University."

It should be noted that the co-executors of the project “Herbarium funds of biological diversity of plants and fungi of the Collection Fund of the Komarov Botanical Institute RAS: modernization, development, and networking as the basis for fundamental research and improvement of genetic technologies" are the country's institutions that have herbarium collections and have applied for the federal program: Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Altai State University, Main Botanical Garden named after N.V. Tsitsin RAS, Central Siberian Botanical Garden SB RAS (CSBS SB RAS), Federal Research Center N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources.
