For the university this autumn turned out to be rich in sporting wins. Gold medals were captured by athletes – ASU graduates Sergey Shubenkov and Egor Sharov, ASU student Andrey Kuzmin. One more sporting award has been collected by ASU recently. Faculty of Physics and Technology postgraduate student, speedskater Ivan Bashkov has won silver at the All-Russian Student Competition.

“The competition was held on 12–15 November in Kolomna under the auspices of Burevestnik all-Russian speedskaters society.” says Ivan. “The opening session was very ceremonial, included the competitors’ parade. I was the only representative of Altai Krai, so I was honoured to carry the sign with our region’s name on it. At my favourite distance of 5,000 m I managed to leave the students of sport-oriented universities (like Ural State University of Physical Education, Kolomna State Pedagogic University, etc.) behind and take the second place. I am very pleased with the result. According to the regulation, the winners of all-Russian student competitions can go to the World Student Championship, which takes place in Italy this year, if they confirm the result at the Championship of Russia. Consequently, my current objective is to remain in good shape in order to be selected at the all-Russian competition stage and honorably represent Altai State University at the international championship.”

In a new sporting season, which has started on October 15, Ivan Bashkov has already taken part in two Russian speedskating championships, where he showed excellent results. At the present moment he is getting ready for the third championship in order to be selected for Russian All-round Speed Skating Championship that includes 500, 1,500 and 10,000 m distances.

“I want to be well-prepared for this competition and qualify for the World Championship. It is realistic, there is no need to go over my head, I just need to steak to the results I have already been showing,” plans the speedskater.

The University congratulates Ivan with his win, thanks for the protection of its honour at the all-Russian competition and wishes more inspiring victories, specifically at the world stage.
