Since 2011 Rossotrudnichestvo Federal Agency has been a governmental coordinator of the “New Generation” program on short study trips to Russia for foreign young politicians, scientists, businessmen and social activists, which was endorsed by Presidential Decree № 1394 of 19 October 2011.

The main objectives of the program are as follows:

  • Development and extension of the social, business and scientific relationships between Russia and foreign countries.
  • Assistance to world’s objective perception of social, political, economic, scientific, educational and cultural changes occurring in Russia.
  • Increasing the number of active young foreigners with affirmative attitude towards Russia; involving them into strengthening the partner relationship between the Russian Federation and represented countries.

The program mainly includes organization of short trips to the Russian Federation for foreign politicians, scientists, businessmen and social activists with the purpose of acquaintance with political, social, economic, scientific, educational and cultural life in Russia and development of cooperation between Russia and foreign countries they represent.

The study trips program comprises several parts: business part that includes the meetings with governmental and municipal authorities, youth and social associations; cultural and excursion program; key event – central thematic events of different formats (summit, conference, specialized school, etc.).

The “New Generation” program is a dynamically developing project realized by Rossotrudnichestvo, the number of participants is increasing every year. According to the agency, around 1000 people from 95 countries have visited Russia in the framework of the youth project this year. The program participants include promising politicians, social activists, scientists and businessmen from foreign countries aged from 25 to 35 years, possessing the professional and leadership potential and able to influence the public opinion in countries of their residence.

Altai State University has already participated in the “New Generation” program for two times and has successful experience in organizing and carrying out its events.

ASU implemented the program in August 2013 for the first time. The key event of the program was International Summer School in Asian Ethnography, which took into consideration the special features of Altai Krai. The school participants included 20 young scientists from CIS countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan).

In October 2015 ASU took part in the program for the second time and organized the International School for Young Asian Scientists “Altai-Asia” in cooperation with Rossotrudnichestvo, which turned out to be the unique communication site that united the young representatives of Asian countries in social, political, humanitarian, cultural and educational spheres. This international event has brought together 30 young researchers from Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Laos, India, Pakistan, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia, and Kyrgyzstan.

International School for Young Asian Scientists “Altai-Asia” was held simultaneously with the Central Asian Youth Leadership Summit on the development of public diplomacy and international cooperation in the framework of ASU Student Associations Development Program supervised by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh) and National Youth Council of Russia. The total number of participants of two major international events was around 120 people.

The summit and school participant had a joint discussion about the topical issues of science, education, academic mobility of students and young scientists, cultural diplomacy, the Russian language role in modern international relations, etc. In the course of the event the participants shared the best practices in joint international projects realization.

The events have encouraged the sustainable and progressive development of the youth contacts and cross-border cooperation between Russia and Asian countries through inter-civilizational dialogue and integration in humanitarian sphere, careful attitude and tolerance towards different cultures, history and current situation.

We hope that Altai State University and Rossotrudnichestvo will organize more joint international events including ones in the framework of the “New Generation” program.
