On 24 June Altai State University hosted an outstanding gala concert in honour of the general meeting of Asian Universities Association and BRICS Youth Assembly Conference. The concert began with vocal and dance composition “Golden Altai” performed by the State Song and Dance Ensemble “Altai”.

After that the first president of Asian Universities Association, ASU Rector Sergey V. Zemlyukov and the newly elected president, Rector of L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University, academician Erlan B. Sydykov walked out on the stage of ASU Concert Hall.

Sergey V. Zemlyukov said:

“The Association of Asian Universities was established in 2012. For the present moment, it comprises 40 higher education institutions of 8 countries. On today’s meeting we have accepted 4 more universities. I hope we will continue to accept new members! Interestingly, the meeting of the heads of Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries is being currently held in Tashkent. Asian Universities Association takes an active part in both BRICS and SCO events. BRICS Youth Assembly Conference confirms that. But the most important fact is that within the last year our countries have become much closer to each other. We have joint projects in education, science and culture. Our students communicate with each other, our scientists work in international research teams together. Today Rector of L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University Erlan B. Sydykov has been elected as a new president of Association. We hand the reins of power to this leading Kazakh university and wish to work successfully. Let the Asian Universities Association flourish!”

Erlan B. Sydykov noted in his response:

“We remember and value the fact that Altai State University initiated the establishment of Asian Universities Association. Due to its efforts, the Association made its first steps. From now on it will be headed by L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University in Astana. We will try to continue the work properly. Our university celebrated the 20th anniversary of its establishment in 2016. In spite of its youth, it has already made a lot of achievements. Our university was ranked among the 50 best higher education organizations of Eastern Europe and Asian developing countries by QS agency. We will do everything we can to make the members of Asian Universities Association even closer and more harmonious. If they are together and work in harmony, then the future will be transparent and wonderful! Once again, I express my gratitude to Altai, Altai State University and my friend and colleague Sergey V. Zemlyukov."

On behalf of Altai State University, the newly elected president received a symbolic present – a model of a sailing ship with Asian Universities Association logotype on its sails.

When presenting the gift, Sergey V. Zemlyukov said:

“Dear Erlan B. Sydykov! We would like to give birth to one more good tradition today and we hope that it will become a part of Asian Universities Association. We give one more symbol to you as to a new president. You proceed to your new job and the Association should continue gliding over the waves of education. Let me present the Association’s ship to you. You, as a new captain, will lead it to new success, new horizons, discover new countries and continents!”

After intensive work at discussion sites and workshops the participants gathered in one hall to communicate in the language of art, which everybody can understand.
