Professor of St. Cloud State University visited ASU

Professor of St. Cloud State University (Minnesota, United States), president of the International Phytolith Society Mikhail S. Blinnikov visited Altai State University. The aim of the visit was to discuss the prospects for joint work of ASU biologists and St. Cloud State University scientists.

Students and lecturers of ASU Faculty of Biology (including its dean M.M. Silantyeva), who conduct phytolith analysis, represented Altai State University. Mikhail S. Blinnikov highly appreciated the results received by our scientists and gave his own recommendations for further development in this area. Moreover, in the course of the meeting the participants discussed the opportunity of joint publications and joint scientific projects. Professor M.S. Blinnikov also invited ASU scientists to join the International Phytolith Society.

Phytoliths are unique microscopic structures made of silica, having original shape, found in some plant tissues and helping to identify the plant even after its decay.
