On 6 April 2017 delegation of Altai State University headed by ASU Rector Sergey V. Zemlyukov visited Institute of Cytology and Genetics (ICG), which is a federal research center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS).

Despite the fact that the two establishments have been interacting for a number of years and that ASU graduates work at the institute, they were willing to come into a closer contact with each other, broaden the area of scientific research and agree upon the opportunity of realizing joint educational programs. These issues were discussed at the meeting and reflected in the signed contract.

At the beginning of the meeting Altai State University and Institute of Cytology and Genetics got acquainted with each other’s growth areas and major achievements. Sergey V. Zemlyukov told the colleagues about the university’s academic activity, research centers and laboratories of Altai State University, including the ones established in collaboration with SB RAS.

“Altai State University has formed serious scientific potential in such areas as biological and informational technologies and biomedicine. In the first place we are interested in directions developed by Institute of Cytology and Genetics, especially plant bioengineering and bioinformatics, as these areas are the most promising,” said Sergey V. Zemlyukov.

Director of ICG, academician Nikolay A. Kolchanov showed institute’s leading departments and laboratories to the representatives of Altai State University, introduced their supervisors and told the guests about possible variants of cooperation.

“Of course, we are interested in cooperation with Altai State University, which is one of the leading and dynamically developing higher education establishments of Siberia,” emphasized academician Nikolay A. Kolchanov. “Research areas presented at ASU correspond with our own activity in many ways. Here we can provide Altai State University with the opportunity of using our infrastructure, assist in organizing joint laboratories and other means of collaboration. Thus, we can host the university’s employees and students at schools, conferences and forums organized here and develop joint training programs. We are also ready to supply Altai State University with our equipment for the purpose of research.”

The official part of the meeting ended with signing of the cooperation agreement between Altai State University and Institute of Cytology and Genetics. After that scientists of ASU and ICG went on excursion around the institute’s laboratories and discussed the specific measures in the field of joint scientific research and educational activity.
