The VI All-Russian Conference with Foreign Participants “Free Boundary Problems: Theory, Experiment and Applications” ended on 11 August 2017 at Altai State University. 88 reports by mathematicians, physicists, theoreticians, and experimentalists were delivered, which made the event genuinely interdisciplinary.

Summarizing the results, corresponding member of Russian Academy of Science (RAS) V.V. Pukhnachev highly appreciated the conducted work. According to him, some of the reports were especially memorable. Thus, speech by Stanislav V. Subbotin (Perm) presented him with sensation of touching the high art.

“Science is important, but what I saw was not only great in terms of science, but also very beautiful!” Vladislav V. Pukhnachev commented.

The conference hosted 5 academicians and 6 corresponding members of RAS and 43 Doctors of Science, including S.V. Alekseenko (academician of RAS, Novosibirsk), L.B. Boinovich (academician of RAS, Moscow), E.A. Kuznetsov (academician of RAS, Moscow), N.M. Zubarev (corresponding member of RAS, Yekaterinburg), V.V. Pukhnachev (corresponding member of RAS, Novosibirsk).

“Our conference gathered together scholars from 15 countries of the world and 10 cities of Russia,” V.V. Pukhnachev said. “As for geography, we even achieved a record: if we take the outermost cities on the west and on the east, where our participants came from, then we covered 18 time belts. Now we have to find scientists in Alaska and Kamchatka, who specialize in free boundary problems, so there is still something to strive for!”

“I was glad to visit Altai State University. This was my first visit to this university, and I especially liked the favorable location – it is situated right on Lenin Prospect, near the government building,” Dean of the Department of Mechanics and Physics at Novosibirsk State University I.V. Marchuk noted. “I got familiar with the university and faculty. It is great that such conference takes place here, at Altai State University. The event will definitely attract attention and increase the interest towards mathematics and mechanics. As a result, we will have good prospective students and developed science. The level of the conference was quite high: there were international representatives and excellent reports.”
