On 22 August 2017 Educational Session of Transregional Center for Volunteer Training has officially started at Altai State University.

According to Altai Krai Department for Sport and Youth Policy, the region has become the first in Russia to start preparation of volunteers for festival in Sochi.

Evgeniy Shvakov, First Vice Rector for Educational Work at ASU, and Valentina Baiborodova, Head of Sector for Youth Projects under Altai Krai Department for Sport and Youth Policy, welcomed the participants at ceremonial opening.

“It is safe to say that the best volunteers have gathered here in Altai Krai. You have passed competitive selection. The competition was record-breaking: 7 applicants per place! In comparison, there will be 5,000 volunteers at The World Festival of Youth and Students, while the number of applications submitted is over 32,000,” Valentina Baiborodova noted.

The volunteers have also confirmed that it was hard to make it into the lucky list and receive the luck letter, as they call it.

“A lot of applicants were excluded on the stage of application construction. Then we had to be interviewed via Skype and pass several other stages. Only a few of us reached the final. We are happy that we will visit the festival and become participants of such grand-scale event,” students of Altai universities said happily.

After a series of official meetings volunteers went to Altai Republic. There, at Royal Comfort tourist place, an educational program was organized for them. Leading speaker of summer school will be Nikolay Kuznetsov, trainer in informal education, member of Outdoor Education (Europe), personal coach in the area of personal development (Russia and Europe). Apart from that, volunteers will be trained by specialists of Altai Krai Department for Sport and Youth Policy and lecturers of Altai State University. At the end of summer school volunteers will receive certificates.

The XIX World Festival of Youth and Students will be held on 14–22 October 2017 in Sochi. It will host 20,000 representatives of 150 countries at the ages from 18 to 35. Altai Krai will be represented by 45 people – 25 participants and 20 volunteers.
