Last week representatives of Altai State University together with accredited Russian Language Ambassadors went to China to familiarize the pupils of the People's Republic of China with the Russian language and Russian culture. Russian Language Ambassadors in the World Project has been implemented in Altai State University within the framework of ASU Student Associations Development Program with the assistance of Pushkin State Russian Language Institute for the second year in a row.

The delegation of Altai State University included Head of the Department of Oriental Studies, Candidate of History Dmitry A. Glazunov and press-secretary, student of the Faculty of Mass Communication, Philology and Political Science Maria Kriksunova.

In the final days of Year of the Russian-Chinese Media program the Russian Language Ambassadors came to Beijing Normal University and a Beijing private school in order to conduct a number of educational lessons.

Russian Language Ambassadors Maria Panarina and Elizaveta Avdeenko enriched the vocabulary of students and schoolchildren of Beijing with Russian etiquette phrases and taught them to play folk games, make traditional dolls and dance quadrille.

The first lesson was held at Beijing Normal University. The process of training was exciting for both students and lecturers of the educational establishment. The participants learned about Russian Language Ambassadors program and got acquainted with traditions of Russian culture. The ambassadors taught students and lecturers to make a protective doll, played Russian traditional games and sang a Russian song.

“We felt anxious about the lessons, as we had to work with adults, but all the doubts were in vain. The students liked everything we showed or told them. We noticed that they were excited, they needed it. When we saw how diligently Chinese students were learning the Russian song, we understood that they really entered into the spirit of the Russian culture. The lesson turned out to be very heartwarming,” Russian Language Ambassadors shared their impressions.

Another lesson of the Russian language was held at the Beijing private school. The schoolchildren welcomed the guests with a theater performance in Chinese, wushu show and dancing. Having shown their skills, the children proceeded to learning etiquette phrases in Russian. They memorized the words fast and started carrying on dialogues with each other. The children also got acquainted with a national symbol – matryoshka, a Russian nesting doll. The volunteers also played Russian games with the pupils and held a masterclass on quadrille. The children took a strong interest in the Russian guests and asked them a lot of questions.

The Russian Language Ambassadors’ trip to China was organized by Altai State University in cooperation with Pushkin State Russian Language Institute.
