Postgraduate student of the Historical Faculty at Altai State University Elena Vervekina became a winner of Miss BRICS International 2018, which was held last week in New Delhi.

The competition was organized within the framework of BRICS Alliance Business Forum 2018. The contestants included the representatives of Brazil, Hungary, Germany, Zimbabwe, India, Iran, Nepal, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Uganda and Japan.

"We decided to make a cultural show that would be different from similar events organized at many international meetings. Therefore, we made a beauty contest at which representatives of different countries cooperating with BRICS demonstrated their culture," Mr. Jilani, the representative of the organizing committee on the Indian side, said.

Larisa Zelentsova, President of International Alliance of BRICS Strategic Projects, said that the girls showed national costumes, performed songs and talked about the culture of their countries during the show. For her competitive program Elena Vervekina, the postgraduate student of ASU, chose to perform the traditional Russian dance Kalinka-Malinka wearing the national costume. The girls from India and Iran were crowned as the first and the second runners-up.

"I am a postgraduate student of Altai State University and I work for a major company as an assistant manager. In October 2017 I participated in Miss Global Beauty Queen competition, which was held in South Korea. There I met a representative of India, who then wrote to me about this contest in New Delhi, and invited me to take part in it. I submitted an application and won!" Elena Vervekina shared the impressions of the contest.

International Alliance of BRICS Strategic Projects was established on February 29, 2016. This is an autonomous non-profit organization promoting the development of international relations within the BRICS group.
