ASU delegation takes part in the meeting of the Sub-Committee on Energy and Climate Change of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments

From September 15 to September 17, a meeting of the Sub-Commission on Energy and Climate Change of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments, of which Altai Krai is a member, was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi, China.

The meeting of the Sub-Commission was devoted to the topic of low-carbon development, the energy revolution under the conditions of climate change, the deep processing of hydrocarbons, renewable energy sources, innovative approaches in the energy sector.

The event was attended by representatives of 11 regional administrations from 4 countries (Republic of Korea, China, Mongolia, Russia). The event was attended by about 80 people, including the Secretary General of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments Hon Jong Ken, representatives of the Office of Foreign Affairs of the People's Government of Shanxi Province, the Administration of Taiyuan City, as well as delegations from the regions.

Altai Krai was represented by Assisstant Professor of the Faculty of Geography at Altai State University, Scientific Expert of the International Coordinating Council "Our Common Home – Altai" I.N. Rotanova, whose presentation was dedicated to low-carbon energy in the regions of Greater Altai in the context of the Development Strategy “One Belt – One Way” and adaptation to global climate change.

Presentations by representatives of the Institute of Science and Environmental Engineering of Chang'an University (PRC), Research Institute of Agricultural Environment and Sustainable Development of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (PRC), Shanxi Provincial Development and Reform Committee (PRC) were also made at the Sub-Commission meeting. 

During the meeting of the Sub-Commission, issues of adaptation to global warming were presented and discussed on the example of activities that reduce the effects of high temperatures in Chinese cities, research on microbiological aerosols and high micropowder in China's air, low-energy and low-carbon technologies, economic efficiency of hydrocarbon processing raw materials, prospects for the use of renewable energy sources. The meeting of the Sub-Commission ended with a visit to a steel mill in Taiyuan and a power plant supplying electricity to Taiyuan and nearby settlements of Shanxi province.

On September 16, participants in a meeting of the Sub-Commission on Energy and Climate Change attended the Expo-Energy 2018 exhibition of the energy industry organized by the People’s Government of Shanxi Province. Shanxi Province is China's largest coal industry, and thus plays an important role in the supply of energy resources in China. The province not only produces energy at modern power plants using innovative technologies, but also develops deep processing of hydrocarbon raw materials, contributes to the development of new renewable energy sources to improve the living conditions of the population.

Participants in the meeting were invited to the opening and plenary session of the Taiyuan International Low Carbon Energy Development Forum. The main theme of the International Forum, which brought together representatives from more than 10 countries, is "The Energy Revolution for the Benefit of Humanity".

The events held by the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments are aimed at organizing a practice-oriented dialogue on the most pressing issues and areas of the economy, ecology and culture, contribute to the development of cooperation with the aim of enhancing inter-regional and international cooperation of the countries of North-East Asia.
